Swanky Bubbles
October 30, 2005
Swanky Bubbles Until I was recently introduced to a bottle of Veuve Cliquot, I always thought I disliked champagne. Now I realize I just have better taste than I thought and can't bring myself to swallow the cheap stuff!
Swanky Bubbles is a restaurant and champagne bar that never disappoints. The multilevel space is dimly lit in an overwhelming ultra-sultry blue. Plush velvet, blue crushed glass tabletops and comfortable seating add to the surroundings. There's a large curving bar in the center, exposed brick walls and a lot of relaxed attitude. Great music fills the background and some nights a DJ spins. Home to resident DJ's such as Nigel Richards, Charles Feelgood, Corey Sanford "Xacto" and Loctgroove. Swanky's ambience itself is an aphrodisiac, so when mixed with the food, desserts and champagne - what a deadly combination (in a very good way of course)!
Dishes are served family style and meant to be shared. The cuisine has an Asian influence and they also offer an extensive sushi menu. This is the first place my friend Maria talked me into trying Unagi rolls, now I can't get enough. Not to fear if you don't like sushi though, there is plenty on the menu to choose from and even my pickiest of friends have happily dined.
Try the chocolate fondue; it comes with pastries and fruit, a perfect dessert. And of course, sampling some champagne is a must! It's available by the glass or bottle in varied price ranges.
Tip: They serve food until 1am everyday, perfect place for a late night snack to keep the mood and bubbly flowing.
The name alone lured me in, but the atmosphere has enticed me to keep going back. Swanky Bubbles, a lasting Old City hot spot, is just as its name states, pure swank and all about the bubbly.
